Hello, and welcome to OJIBWA Purebred Nubians!

Our home/ranch is located in the heart of the mountains in northeast Washington, about 25 miles south of Kettle Falls and overlooks the beautiful Columbia River and Lake Roosevelt. Here on our 44 acres we can bask in pure country life with plenty of elbow room, lots of sunshine, and endless summer grass for all of the goat family members.

My great joy in life is to be with my goats. Life really began for me when I got my first goats! However, I also enjoy riding my horses, doing buckskin and beadwork, baking and sewing, and working on our place together with my husband.

My Breed Standards:
I believe correctness of structure, strong feet and legs, and dairyness comes first in a quality dairy goat, along with a well attached mammary with good medial, teat placement and lots of milk production. Heavy emphasis on Dairyness! (Flat level rumps, loose skin, long lean necks, very pliable udder texture!) And of course good dispositions.

Feed and Care:
All of my goats are abscess free, are wormed regularly, have free choice mineral salt, and are given selenium several times a year, or more often if needed. Feet are trimmed regularly. In the summer, they eat all the fresh new grass they want, and in the winter, they eat quality alfalfa hay inside their cozy barn. They also get a year round diet of all the TLC they can stand!

The Babies:
The babies are raised on a CAE prevention program (heat treated colostrum and milk). All births are attended, and babies are kept in a clean pen in the house with me for about a week of intensive care and bonding! They are given selenium at this time. They then graduate to the "Baby Barn", and for about 3 months the babies are fed heat treated milk, fresh hay, water, and grain. Disbudding occurs at about 4-7 days of age, and tattooing is done when necessary or as soon as all of the kids are on the ground.

The Bucks:
Those smelly boys! How I love them. They are a very important part of our herd and family too! Each buck has his own shelter and run area that opens into a large pasture/paddock area. Feet are trimmed regularly. Fresh water, hay, minerals, vitamins, and selenium are provided year round. The joy of my life has been my senior buck, Indiana Jones, or "Indy boy" as I call him. At almost 7 years old he is as easy to handle as he was as a baby. He still has a very sweet disposition, and wags his tail every time I see or talk to him. His kids are the highlight of my breeding program. He is still producing outstanding offspring. Each and every buck here is special and they get as much TLC as the girls!

A Family Message:
I would like to thank my wonderful husband for his constant love and support! He has always been there for me and enabled me to have so much joy in my life!

I could not have made it these past many years without the help of my hard working son, Beau! For never a complaint for all the fencing and building on three different homes in the past 6 years, thank you with all my heart! I couldn't have done it without you!

For my beautiful daughter, Jenna, who married just a year and a half ago, I want you to know that I will sorely miss you and all the fun we've had raising goats together. The memories are endless and priceless! Good luck with your beautiful herds of Nubians and Nigerians!

Thank you for browsing through the OJIBWA herd! Please browse or come by anytime! The coffee is always on!  Deb Bowers
